Cocktails To Enjoy On the Beach Or Christmas Winters

It’s cold outside today so I thought I would think of a warm beach.

cocktails have moved beyond pina coladas with an umbrella and glacé cherry garnish. Most discerning drinkers now know their mojitos from their margaritas – but they may not know how to make them at home.

As money is likely to be tight this Christmas, I wanted to find out how to mix my favorite cocktails in the comfort of my own home.

A cocktail is a mixed drink that is traditionally defined as a combination of liquor(s), a sweetener, bitters, and water (diluted ice). By this definition, a Brandy Cocktail is a pure and classic example of a cocktail, but we also consider the Martini a cocktail even though it contains no sweetener. And so, the actual, modern definition of a cocktail is broader than it was in the first days of the bar.

In general, we consider cocktails to be many of the fancier mixed drinks that require a little more work to construct. It’s a subjective definition and one that you shouldn’t worry too much about.

To sum it up: a cocktail is a mixed drink, but a mixed drink may not always be considered a cocktail.

Below are some cocktails to enjoy.

Watermelon Margaritas

Watermelon Margaritas

  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups frozen watermelon
  • 3 shots tequila
  • 2 shots sugar syrup
  • Juice of 2 limes
  1. Take a wedge of lemon and run this along with the rim of the martini glass.
  2. Twist the glass in sugar.
  3. Add a slice of watermelon to the glass and set aside.
  4. In a blender add frozen watermelon, tequila, sugar syrup, and lime juice then blitz together.
  5. Strain the mixture and then pour into the martini glasses. Enjoy!

Sunshine

Sunshine

  1. Shake ingredients well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Golden Pineapple Daiquiri

Golden Pineapple Daiquiri

  • 1 pineapple
  • Ice
  • Juice of 1 lemon & 1 lime
  • 1 shot sugar syrup
  • 3 shots white rum
  • 1 shot dark rum
  1. Chop the top of the pineapple off and scoop out the center. Freeze the pineapple for two hours.
  2. In the meantime, spray your hollowed out pineapple gold.
  3. Add the frozen pineapple and ice to a blender with the juice of 1 lemon and 1 lime, 1 shot sugar syrup and 3 shots of white rum and blitz until smooth.
  4. Add the mixture to the hollowed out pineapple. Drizzle dark rum on top and enjoy!
